MakeUp Geek Launches “In the Nude” Collection- photos & review!

Beauty, Make-Up, Make-Up Geek Cosmetics

Hi Everyone! Today I’m back with the latest scoop on the newest launch in the beauty community. Marlena Stell, CEO and founder of Makeup Geek, will be launching her “In the Nude” Collection today on the Makeup Geek website for purchase! To shop the collection for the palette, bronzers, or bundles, click here.

I attended the launch party in Pasadena, CA last weekend and it was such a fun time! I got to meet Marlena, the CEO of Makeup Geek Cosmetics, and she is such a beautiful woman inside and out. Meeting Marlena was definitely the highlight of the night and these goodies just topped it off.

The In the Nude collection consists of a 9 pan eye shadow palette and 3 new bronzers. The Eyeshadow palette is a skin tone-inspired makeup palette introducing four new matte eye shadows:

  1. So Pale
  2. Buffed
  3. Creased
  4. Dark Roast

The 5 other shadows are already part of the Makeup Geek collection. Included below are some pictures of the palette as well as eyeshadow swatches.

^ left to right: rapunzel, in the spotlight, so pale (new)^ left to right: tan lines, buffed (new), creased (new)^ left to right: cabin fever, grandstand, deep roast (new)

This palette is beautifully curated and most definitely cohesive featuring 6 matte eyeshadows, 2 foiled shadows & 1 satin eye shadow. The palette also includes a really nice mirror, so that’s a plus! The limited edition palette consists of 9 shadows at 1.8 grams of product and retails for $50. Foiled eye shadows sell for $10 individually, and the other shadows sell for $6, therefore bringing up the value of just the eye shadows at $62, so it’s definitely a deal if you break down the price.  This palette is vegan and cruelty-free! As for the performance of the shadows, I found them to swatch nicely with good pigmentation, however ‘rapunzel’ and ‘so pale’ were the two shadows that were very light when swatched onto my hand. However, when applied to the eyes, the shadows can be used to add a subtle highlight right above the brows or as a base on the lids after applying eye shadow primer in order to create a nice base for the other shadows to apply smoothly.

I think this palette is beautiful and a nice one to have if you’re pretty new to Makeup Geek Cosmetics as a whole because you have different finishes of shadows and beautiful colors.  However, if you already own the 5 shadows included in the palette and aren’t interested in the 4 new ones, a pass on this palette is what I recommend. Unless you like to hoard make-up or maybe you’d like to gift the palette to someone special. I personally don’t own too many Makeup Geek shadows, so this palette is a winner for me although I definitely have similar colors in my collection already. I’m a fan of the slim packaging, the shadow performance and the color selection included and find that this palette will be suitable for my upcoming travels since I have a variety of colors to work with and a large mirror. I love the mix of warm and cool toned eyeshadows allowing you to be very versatile with your looks. You can easily create daytime and evening looks with this palette!

the lip colors featured here are ‘beach bunny’ (light pinky-nude) with a matte finish
and ‘jetsetter’ (soft brown) with a creme finish

Moving on, Marlena launched 3 new bronzers to go with this collection featuring:

  • Sun-Kissed:  for fair skin tones
  • Tawny – for medium skin tones
  • Burnished – for deep skin-tones

The bronzers retail for $22 each and althougb they perform well, I think the price point is a little too high.
