Hey Everyone! Today’s post is all about my current skincare routine!
It’s pretty lengthy, so grab some popcorn… I mean fruit 😉
I’m constantly trying out different products so it’s almost unlikely that I actually stick to a routine. The other day I was reorganizing my skincare and make-up collection; I tossed out some old stuff and empty containers, you could say that I engaged in some decluttering. Anyways, as I was reorganizing, I realized that I actually have been pretty consistent with the products that I’m currently using since January! So I figured that now would be the best time to do this post. The picture above includes all the products that I’ve been using for the last five months if not more. I will go into detail about how I use each product and why I use the products!
SKIN TYPE: Before I begin talking about what I actually use on my skin, I feel like it’s necessary to actually tell you about my skin type. I have dry skin, but it’s not extremely dry to the point where I have peeling or patchy skin. I also have sensitive skin and it can get really red and inflamed. I don’t suffer from any cystic acne or rosacea, but I do get the occasional pimples or breakouts especially when I’m very stressed out or when I’m on the dot.
SKIN GOALS: My goals for my skincare routine, regardless of what products I’m using, are to maximize the overall health of my skin, achieve an even skin tone and texture, and prevent the effects of aging… even though I’m only 23, it’s never too early to give a damn about your skin. I never used to use products like sunscreen and I’m not going to lie to you guys, I still maybe wear sunscreen 1-2 times a week, if that. I’m working on the sunscreen part… just give me time. I focus more on products that add moisture, prevent and/or treat acne and hyper-pigmentation, and prevent sun damage and wrinkles.
^ These are the 6 products that I use on a weekly basis. The only product I didn’t photograph are the makeup remover wipes that I use… I had just run out and had already tossed the packaging. If you follow me on Snapchat, you know that the wipes I use are from Neutrogena (it’s the blue pack) and I use the wipes whenever I need to remove all of my makeup! It’s gentle, removes everything and my face is always incredibly soft afterwards.
The 2 products that I use from Derma e are the Purifying Gel Cleanser and the Microdermabrasion Scrub. I use the gel cleanser every morning and before going to bed. This cleanser is refreshing and it doesn’t strip my skin out of it’s moisture which is why I love using it in the morning. It’s sulfate free and fragrance free so it won’t irritate your skin. Before bed, I use a makeup wipe to remove all of my face and eye makeup. Even though my skin looks clean after using the makeup wipe, I like to go in with my Clarisonic and this cleanser. I have been using the Clarisonic since December 2012 and it has been a lifesaver! It really removes excess makeup that you may have not seen. I just change the brush head every 3-6 months. Just to clarify, I use the cleanser in the morning and I use the cleanser with my Clarisonic at night to fully cleanse my skin to ensure that I’ve removed all makeup. This cleanser is geared more for those who are “normal” or “oily,” but I break rules and since it works well with my skin, I continue to use it. I go through the cleanser pretty quickly, within about 2 months of daily use. I just repurchased this bottle earlier this month from Walgreens! I think it’s necessary to use a cleanser and not just a bar of soap on your face and this one does the job for me!
If you’re considering buying a Clarisonic, go for it! I purchased mine from Macy’s during the holiday season a few years back and I LOVE it… it ‘s game changer for sure.
I was gifted this scrub when I went to Gen Beauty LA in January, so I’ve yet to use all of this up. You really don’t need much product, so I can tell that this will last me a while. This miracle product is the microdermabrasion scrub from Derma e and I use this baby 1-2 times a week + it is AMAZING. You can use this in the morning, afternoon, night… it’s up to you! This scrub is supposed to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and it leaves my skin feeling SO smooth like a baby’s booty. It’s a really great exfoliator and not abrasive at all, just don’t apply a crazy amount of pressure. I have tried products that were over $60 and didn’t do half as much as this scrub, so of course I highly recommend that you add this to your skincare routine. It does have some scent to it, I can’t put my finger on it, but I’m pretty sure it’s this lemon-y scent. It’s very fresh and easy to use, just make sure to wet your skin and apply some to your face and rub in circular motions. This scrub does a great job at removing any dead skin. After using this scrub I love to go in with a moisturizer and if you read on, you’ll find out the one I love!
The moisturizer that gives my dry skin life and keeps it supple is the moisturizing bomb from Belif. This is the one that I’ve photographed above, but my 2nd favorite is the Aqua Bomb (gel-like) which is also by Belif & sold at Sephora. A quick background story, I had heard about Belif in 2015, but never given them a try and when I went to Gen Beauty in LA, I was given like 5 samples of both the moisturizing and aqua bomb. I’m on my 4th sample of the moisturizing bomb and 3rd sample of the aqua bomb. They are both amazing, but I use the moisturizing bomb more often. I will be purchasing the full size at the end of June and it’s about $38 for almost 2 oz., but they also sell a smaller size. I don’t mind the price because the product lasts a long time, it works, and a little goes a long way. I’m sure the full size will last me at least 3 months if not more and it’s good for 12 months.
I use the moisturizing bomb everyday after cleansing my skin and I always apply the moisturizer after using a scrub or a peel off mask because my skin needs that hydration. I will also use this before applying my makeup… you just need a little bit, let it dry for a minute or 2, then go in with your face primer if you use one, and then continue on with your make-up routine. I was extremely dry in January especially around my nose and forehead and this just made my skin smooth and supple. You can use this anytime during the day or before bed. But I personally just use it in the morning because I use a sleeping mask at night.
The sleeping mask that I use at night is by Laneige, a brand imported from Korea. I have been using the Water Sleeping Mask since the end of January. You’re supposed to apply this at night and it is an overnight mask, so don’t apply it and take it off. You’ll wake up with hydrated and replenished skin in the morning. This stuff is HOLY GRAIL. It’s suitable for all skin types and even my mom is obsessed with it and she has oily skin. This has a gel-like consistency and it absorbs into your skin within a minute or two and it’s not greasy or sticky like some of the masks that I’ve used before. It’s incredibly light weight and this overnight mask will retain moisture in your skin… and again, makes my skin feel smooth like a baby’s booty. I’m almost out of this stuff and I will definitely be buying some more. As for pricing, it’s $23 for a 70ml (2.37 oz) container, and like I mentioned before, a little goes a long way so it should last you a few months. Can you believe that 1 is sold every 12 seconds worldwide?! Simply AMAZING.
For whatever reason, I have been really obsessed with using Korean skincare beauty products when it comes to moisturizers and night masks. I think the reasoning is because they are somewhat cheaper than the most other “high end” products that you can purchase from department stores like Macy’s or Nordstrom, and these are actually working wonders for my skin. If you find something that works for your skin, keep using it. Your skin will thank you for it and you’ll look amazing as you age. It’s so important to get into a good routine and I always tell my clients that a good make-up application has everything to do with great skin. If your foundation is looking patchy, you need to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin.
Last but not least, here are the two masks that I use. If you want to read about the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Mask, I wrote an in-depth review earlier this year and you can read it here. To keep it short, I use the Kiehl’s mask once a week during the day; it refreshes and brightens up my skin! My second go to mask is from Boscia and I discovered this gem at Sephora back in 2014 thanks to a lovely associate and I have been hooked since. It’s called the Luminizing Black Mask and I use it about 2-3 times a month when I’m suffering from a breakout or I have a pimple forming. You want to apply a thick amount to dry skin, let it sit until it’s completely dry, peel off the mask, and then cleanse your skin. I find that it dries completely within 35-45 minutes. I’ve noticed that it helps minimize my pores, and pulls out some of my blackheads. Keep this away from your eyebrows! Here’s a tip: save some product and don’t apply it all over your face. Just apply it on your “problem” areas like I’ve demonstrated below haha. I definitely want to pull out any blackheads from my nose and chin as well as minimize pores in those areas, and my forehead had a pimple so it needed some TLC.
Whew, this was long post, right? I hope you all enjoyed reading and hopefully you learned a thing or two. If you use any of these products or will try one of them, let me know. Also, I’m always on the lookout for products that remove blackheads entirely. If you have a holy grail product that you just love, let me know in the comments below. Thank you so, so much for reading! Love you guys! XOXO
